Scottish Bespoke Furniture

Commissioning a piece of furniture is an exciting process that holds rewards for both the client and the maker.

The design of a piece is drawn first and foremost from the function specified. Once this has been established the form of the furniture is moulded to suit the clients remit or through a series of sketches or a scale model designed by myself. The next stage involves the final design, details of construction, materials and finishes.

Selecting timber for the job is just as crucial a stage as the design process. I pay particular attention to specific cuts of planks in relation to the way the timber will react to further drying and how stable it will be in situ. Working with Hardwoods holds its own challenges and ultimately is rewarded with extremely individually characterised timbers.

An average commission takes between two to six weeks.
