About
I started designing and making bespoke furniture in 2000 after attending a two year furniture craftsmanship course at Fife College.
At the turn of the last century my great grandfather made custom-built furniture from his workshops in the Gorbals, Glasgow. Nathan Norman - my grandfather, took more of an interest in the management and processing of timber and began operating a sawmill in the hills of Perthshire. My father, J.David Norman moved the business back to Glasgow where he set up the first Scottish Hardwood Charter, a campaign that was designed to ensure the production forests of the world were managed sustainably for commercial enterprise in Scotland. I am the fourth generation of my family to work with Hardwoods.
